The nursing unit consists of a 15-bed adult general medical unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts. The average length of stay for patients in this unit is approximately 5 days. An interdisciplinary team meets daily to review patient progress, identify barriers to discharge, and address discharge needs. Additionally, there is a unit-based educator available to support onboarding and facilitate the professional growth of nursing staff. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to assigned patients in the adult general medical unit.

  • Monitor and assess patient health status and report any changes to the healthcare team.

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.

  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions and post-discharge care.

  • Participate in daily interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and discharge needs.

  • Support onboarding and training of new nursing staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a compact license.

,

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification.

,

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

,

  • Preferred: Enrolled in a bachelor's of nursing program.

,

  • Preferred: One year of experience in the area of clinical expertise to which applying.
